Filipinoesque Pop-Up

Toronto launches FILIPINOESQUE for the holidays, a Filipino fashion and dessert bar pop-up

Filipino-themed pop-up aims to connect Toronto’s Filipino community by fusing two unlikely elements: ethical fashion and gourmet desserts.

We have partnered up with Cambio & Co. to launch FILIPINOESQUE, a Filipino-themed pop-up to bring together Toronto’s Filipino community on December 1st and 2nd, 2018. Taking place at 434 College Street, Torontonians can proudly shop from ethical fashion retailer Cambio & Co.’s collection of accessories designed and handcrafted in the Philippines, while they enjoy unique flavours through our interactive gourmet bar. On Saturday December 1st, 2018 from 7PM-9PM, there will be a series of inspirational TED-style Lightning Talks on the topic of collaboration, featuring entrepreneurs and leaders from Toronto’s Filipino community.

“We wanted to create a space that was unabashedly Filipino,” said Gelaine Santiago, co-founder, Cambio & Co. and co-organizer, FILIPINOESQUE. “Imagine a beautiful place where you can shop from leading Filipino brands, enjoy innovative Filipino fusion desserts, take Instagram selfies with your friends, and listen to Filipino music while you sip on cocktails. It’s a celebration of our Filipino heritage in a way that feels very Toronto.”

FILIPINOESQUE comes on the heels of a major announcement on October 30th, when the Canadian Parliament officially designated the month of June as Filipino Heritage Month across Canada. 2018 also saw the release of Crazy Rich Asians, the first all-asian Hollywood cast for 25 years, and featured two prominent Filipino actors. FILIPINOESQUE is one part of the larger movement of Filipino-Canadians asserting their identities.

“Filipinos are the number one growing minority group in Canada, and FILIPINOESQUE is our way to define ourselves as a community through our heritage, culture, craftsmanship, and flavours,” said Rechie Valdez, co-founder, Filipino Fusion Desserts and co-organizer, FILIPINOESQUE. “Our stories, upbringing, and culture are so diverse. FILIPINOESQUE is just the beginning and we’ll be seeing more of these kind of events in the future.”

FILIPINOESQUE will be taking place at 434 College Street, 2nd floor on December 1st from 12PM-7PM, and December 2nd from 11AM-6PM. Lightning Talks will be on December 1st from 7PM-9PM. To get tickets, visit:
